FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When choosing a holistic provider, you want to be sure you are choosing one that you can fully trust to answer all of your questions and concerns. We offer you easy-to-understand guides on some of the most common inquiries we receive from patients.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture is a 2,500-year-old practice of Chinese medicine that involves the insertion of hair-thin, sterile needles at strategic points of your body. Internal channels called "meridians" connect the flow of energy between these pressure points and the rest of the body, enabling acupuncture to unblock energy and balance body tissues and systems through re-invigoration of blood flow.

How do I prepare beforehand?

Eat a light meal or snack to avoid feeling lightheaded, and try to avoid anything heavy or caffeinated (as it can affect your energy levels). Be sure not to overbook the day of your treatment to minimize stress directly before and after your appointment.

What should I expect in a session with Dr. Choi?

The appointment will begin with a consultation to evaluate your medical history and symptoms, along with your current lifestyle. Some diagnostic tests, such as a tongue and pulse check, can be performed to further assess your health. After discussing the results with your licensed acupuncturist, you will undergo an acupuncture treatment as a part of your therapeutic care. With your practitioner occasionally returning to gently adjust the needles, you will be left to relax for around half an hour. The first appointment can last up to 90 minutes, and future sessions often range from 30 to 60 minutes.

What does it feel like?

Acupuncture is minimally invasive, so the procedure is virtually painless. When the needle reaches the target depth, some patients experience a tingling sensation. After the session, many report feeling refreshed and relaxed, which is expected after the release of endorphins from tissue stimulation.
